The 16,000-TEU vessel, Adrian Maersk, is expected to operate on Maersk’s Asia–Mediterranean trade route, but the company has not confirmed whether it will run on methanol or conventional fuels for this service.
This vessel is part of Maersk’s planned fleet of 18 large dual-fuel methanol vessels scheduled for delivery in 2024 and 2025. In total, the Danish shipowner has committed to deploying 19 methanol-capable vessels by 2025, which includes one retrofitted to run on methanol.
It also plans to bring LNG-capable ships into operation and aims to "use bio- or e-methane as soon as possible", though a firm timeline has yet to be announced.
