The European Union Allowance (EUA) market is notoriously volatile, shaped by policy developments, economic conditions, commodity prices, and market speculation, which makes it one of the hardest markets to forecast.
Shipowners who delay EUA purchases until the deadline on 30 September 2026, when 70% of 2025 emissions come due, risk market price volatility that can extend beyond the voyage itself. From 2026, coverage rises to 100% of in-scope emissions, with those allowances surrendered in 2027, making a thorough compliance strategy increasingly important.
