Approximately 1,500 employees and contractors will be involved in carrying out safety inspections, cleaning and parts-replacement work at several installations, the company said.
The Shell Energy and Chemicals Park in Pernis is Europe’s largest refinery with a capacity of processing 404,000 b/d of crude oil. Its crude distillers can process 750 litres/second of crude oil at full capacity.
The refinery, which is home to around 60 refined products and chemical factories, is a major regional producer of fuel oil, gasoil and diesel products that are supplied to ports in Europe and elsewhere.
This week, Shell also announced that it will not restart construction of its planned 820,000 mt/year biofuels facility at the refinery complex.
