Singapore bunkering and port operations unaffected by vessel collision

Singapore

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said that the Singapore-registered tanker Marine Dynamo and the Malta-registered bulk carrier Flag Gangos were involved in a collision about 8 km south of Tanah Merah on Monday.

Both vessels remain stable, but light oil sheens have been detected around Marine Dynamo. The tanker operator reported that MGO used for propulsion, which was stored in a service tank located above the waterline, spilled as a result of the incident.

MPA noted that MGO — a light fuel comparable to diesel — “is expected to evaporate and break down readily in the environment.”

In response, the authority has sent out patrol craft and spill response craft to investigate and provide support, including dispersing the oil sheens. Drones have also been deployed for monitoring.

A navigational broadcast has been issued to alert passing traffic, and MPA confirmed there is “no impact to navigational safety.”

The effect on bunkering operations will be “minimal,” according to a source.
