Around 28% of global bunker delivery volumes are now logged electronically, without the use of paperwork, eBDN provider Ofiniti said.

An electronic bunker delivery note (eBDN) is a digital version of the standard BDN that records key details such as the quantity, grade and sulphur content of the fuel supplied.

eBDN adoption has picked up in recent years, as it can significantly reduce manual paperwork, saving both time and paper, and also reduce human errors.

Singapore made eBDNs mandatory for bunker deliveries in April and has so far led the world in its adoption. Around 205 barges in Singapore now use eBDNs, compared to 105 barges elsewhere in the world, Ofiniti’s vice president of business development Martin Christian Wold said in a LinkedIn post.

Ofiniti expects the global share to match Singapore’s by first quarter of 2026, Wold added.

Around 65% of alternative fuels supplied globally are already delivered with eBDNs, Wold said.

Dutch biofuels supplier FincoEnergies said earlier this year that it had partnered with Ofiniti and barge operator VT Group to issue eBDNs for all of its marine biofuel deliveries across the ARA bunkering hub.
