Singapore conventional bunker sales steady in August
A dip in vessel arrivals for bunkering was offset by higher daily average volumes and stronger VLSFO sales, keeping Singapore’s August bunker volumes broadly steady.
Changes in bunker sales from July to August:
- Total sales up 22,000 mt to 4.76 million mt
- VLSFO sales up 129,000 mt to 2.50 million mt
- HSFO sales down 58,000 mt to 1.89 million mt
- MGO sales down 50,000 mt to 370,000 mt
Sales of MGO and HSFO in August fell by 12% and 3%, respectively. In contrast, VLSFO sales rose by 5% during the month, according to preliminary data from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore.
A total of 3,608 vessels called at the port for bunkering in August, which was 43 fewer than in July. However, average daily sales rose slightly to 1,320 mt, up from about 1,300 mt in July.
Total bunker sales at the port during the first eight months of the year were 1% lower than in the same period last year.
Fuel grade share of total sales in August (compared to year to date):
- 53% VLSFO (53% YTD)
- 40% HSFO (40% YTD)
- 8% MGO (8% YTD)
