First barge-to-ship methanol bunkering completed at Port of Antwerp-Bruges
Proman Stena Bulk's dual-fuel methanol-fuelled tanker, Stena Pro Marine, was bunkered with 475 mt of methanol from bunker barge Tamariva at SEA-invest's terminal, according to the port authority.

The port aims to facilitate bunkering of alternative fuels such as LNG, ammonia, hydrogen and methanol, the Antwerp-Bruges Port Authority said in a social media post. “Becoming a #MultiFuelPort is our goal.”
Antwerp is the second major port in Europe’s ARA region and the third across Europe, to successfully conduct methanol bunkering.
Port of Rotterdam bunkered 1,500 mt of methanol in 2022, after launching its first barge-to-ship bunkering operation in March 2021.
Swedish Port of Gothenburg completed ship-to-ship methanol bunkering on the first non-tanker vessel in January this year.
Meanwhile, Port of Houston in the US carried out its first barge-to-ship methanol bunkering on Proman Stena Bulk’s methanol-fuelled tankers Stena Pro Marine and Stena Prosperous in April.
Proman Stena Bulk is a joint venture between US-based tanker company Stena Bulk and Swiss methanol producer Proman.
