Sailings through the Houston Ship Channel were temporarily halted due to dense fog and reduced visibility.
The channel, a key waterway to the Port of Houston which is one of the world’s busiest seaports, connects Houston-area terminals to the Gulf of Mexico and handles a growing number of inland barges and ocean-going vessels.
Frequent closures and reopenings occur due to shifting weather conditions, particularly dense fog, which creates navigation hazards.
Earlier on 14 March, a dense fog advisory was issued for the Houston Ship Channel and Galveston Bay, warning mariners to consider these conditions before beginning or continuing their transits.
